While a lot of good things in life can be a long process to receive the full benefit, sometimes we all want something that gives us instant gratification. In moderation I am a big believer in the motto of treat yourself. I have found that investing in some material items that make me feel good about myself in the short term can give me motivation to do things that make me feel good about myself in the long term. When I decide to treat myself a little, these are the 3 things I tend to gravitate towards.
- Getting my eyebrows done: I am the type that gets lazy about plucking so eventually I have to make an appointment to get them waxed. Most of the time people don’t really notice if mine are getting bad, but the moment I get mine done I notice I feel way less self conscious. It’s no longer something I wonder if people are looking at. I have gone to the Benefit Brow Bar the last couple times. I was pleased with both of the people who have done mine.
- Buying a new perfume: This is the most expensive option since if I am getting something like this with the purpose of treating myself, I am not just getting body spray. I am getting the real deal. Everyone loves to smell good but there is just something about nice perfume that makes me feel fancy and put together. My favorite at the moment is YSL Black Opium.
- Trying a new mascara or lip color: There are so many options for both of these things that it can be fun to experiment. A new mascara makes any makeup look appear better because it will be less flaky and clumpy than the old mascara. A new lip color is perfect if you are trying to change up your look but you can’t go on a big shopping trip. Also, mascara and lip color bring attention to a feature that is good on most people.
These things aren’t going to bring me long term happiness but they give me a little boost of confidence when I need it.
