This past week I really made some progress in getting actively involved with the blogging and fashion industry in Dallas. On Thursday I went to dinner with the Dallas Style Collective girls! I will write a more detailed post about that event later even though it happened before what I am writing about today, since I am waiting on some good pictures from it. By going to this event, I then was able to have some people to meet up with at StyleCon Dallas.
I would have tried to go to StyleCon even if I didn’t have this blog since I have always loved the fashion industry. However, after going to Thursday’s dinner, these types of events now provide me with a way to truly get connected with like minded people.
When I first arrived I met up with a couple girls from Circle Seven Five. This was a good start but I quickly realized I knew some other girls at the event. I decided to mingle from group to group and then when some people started leave I met up with the Style Collective girls. It was fun to explore all of the booths with different lifestyle brands featured. My favorite booth was the Aveda/Tangerine Salon one. They curled my hair for free and I must say it looked AMAZING!
Another fun part of the event was meeting Catherine Lowe and Danielle Carolan. Catherine actually grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same college as me so it was cool to be able to talk about that with her. Danielle is a youtuber and while she may be the same age as my younger sister it was awesome to meet her. I am so motivated by seeing what all of these youtubers are able to do with their platforms no matter how old they may be.
All of the girls speaking on panels did so great. I don’t know if I necessarily learned anything completely new but it was worthwhile to hear about how all of the influencers and business owners got to where they are. Hearing the many different paths that can be taken gives me confidence that eventually I could be able to do something with my own platform. Also, with working in the industry, hearing these girls speak just confirmed what I already knew about the “trickle up” theory being so prevalent with how trends become popular these days.
Lastly, one of the other perks of StyleCon was the awesome swag bag I got! You can see the picture of everything I got above but I thought I would mention a couple items that I am particularly excited about. I am super excited about the full size Batiste dry shampoo. It is my favorite dry shampoo brand and I haven’t tried the scent I received from StyleCon! The face masks look great as well. My favorite type of face mask is a sheet mask so it will be fun to see if I like this OMG one from Double Dare. I also am very interested in the Green Superfood Powder from Hum. This can be mixed into water and I have actually really been craving a green juice recently.
Overall StyleCon was a great experience! I am super excited to be getting more involved in events that not only are fun but that also align with my goals.
