Last year my Family was able to to visit me for Thanksgiving which made deciding when to go home for the Holidays a non issue. This year they weren’t able to come to Dallas so I had to decide if I wanted to stay in town for Thanksgiving and go back to Seattle for longer over Christmas, or go to Seattle for a short trip over both holidays. Ultimately, after some hesitation I decided to stay in Dallas. I know it is pretty common for people who move away to not go back to their hometowns for Thanksgiving but this will be my first time spending it away from family, so naturally I was wondering for a while what I would end up doing that day. I knew I didn’t want to be sitting on my couch alone the whole day.
Luckily everything fell into place and I now have plans for Thanksgiving! Not all of them are on actual Thanksgiving but I thought I would share everything I have planned for the general time frame if you happen to be in the same situation as me!
- Friendsgiving: This is a very popular choice that probably seems like a given to most people. This was my first year attending one though. The first worry I had about not going to Seattle for Thanksgiving was simply just being alone on the holiday but my second worry was not getting to eat all the yummy Thanksgiving food. By going to a Friendsgiving I was able to eat all my favorites!
- Turkey Trot: Many cities have a Turkey Trot and this year I have decided to partake in the Dallas one. My friend is doing it with her family but she invited me and another girl who isn’t going home to join them. This is on actual Thanksgiving so it solves my issue of not wanting to spend the holiday alone.
- Football: The weekend after Thanksgiving tends to have a lot of big football games including my school’s biggest rivalry game. I joined a Facebook group for alumni in Dallas and found a viewing party for this game that I will probably go to!
