There are a lot of different opinions about new years resolutions. While I do believe you can make a change at any point, sometimes it is nice to have some sort of solid starting point. I am not setting complete resolutions this year but I am setting some goals. Often times with resolutions, once you veer slightly off track its seems like you’ve completely broken the resolution. For me goals are more of a process and something to actively work towards. There will be days where I am more successful with reaching them and days where I may get a little off track. Since reaching goals takes progress I never feel like getting a little off track makes it so I can never each them.
My first goal I have is to more strictly follow my budget. I use Mint some but I need to stop charging so much to credit cards and check the app more often so I am more conscientious of how I am spending. Something I want to be able to do at some point is travel somewhere alone. To be able to do this I need to start setting aside more money. Another far off thing I want to do that requires better budgeting is buying property. This is years off but I’ve got to start being better with my budget now if I want to be able to do that.
My next goal is to experiment with cooking more. The other day I made my own pasta sauce and it was amazing! It tasted so much better than buying a jar. Now that I know I can make something like that from scratch I really want to get into cooking more. I know how to make things with a couple ingredients but my goal is to get more adventurous with my recipes. This will help my first goal since I won’t be spending as much money on eating out. Eating more home cooked meals will also help with a sub goal of mine, living a healthier lifestyle. Living healthier isn’t necessarily a 2018 goal though since it is one that has been an off and on goal for a while. I have periods where I am really good about it but I lack complete consistency.
My last main goal is being more vocal with what I want. This goes for all aspects in life but right now I want to focus on doing this in my career. While I know my potential, sometimes I feel uncomfortable expressing to people where I see myself going in my career and asking for specifics on how I can get there. I know that people can’t read my mind though so I’ve got to get better at having those conversations.
