If you didn’t already pick up on it, I moved to Texas without knowing a single person here. So, I thought it might be fun to share the story of how I made friends!
Before I moved, I already followed a lot of Dallas fashion bloggers. Because of that, one day in my suggested feed on instagram an account came up called Circle Seven Five. When I discovered it, I knew I would be moving but I was still in Seattle at this point. It turned out that Circle Seven Five is a social group for women in their 20s and 30s! After researching the group further, I found out that they host events centered around brunch, fun workout classes, and fashion/shopping. These things sounded like something I would love! Since it cost a little bit to be a part of, I told myself I would join after being in Texas for a month so I could give myself time to figure out how to fit it in to my budget since I didn’t consider membership fees a necessity in life.
I ended up joining sooner than I thought I would. Even though I would consider myself more of an introvert at heart, what I quickly realized was that there is a difference between being alone by choice when you know you can call your friends to meet up whenever and being alone because you legit don’t know anyone. I decided after a week that it doesn’t hurt to invest in yourself and your social life a little bit and I went ahead and joined.
Maybe it’s just how people are in Texas but there were people so friendly that I was already hanging out with some of the girls after going to 2 of the same events as them. My birthday occurred a month after I moved and I originally didn’t think I would have much to do to celebrate it. Two of the girls who I had seen at events twice, offered to come up to the shopping center near my apartment and take me to out to dinner. They also brought along another girl who I had never met before, but the more the merrier! After dinner they ended up taking me out to uptown in Dallas which was a lot of fun. After our night out, the girl who I met that day offered to let me just sleep at her apartment since she lived closer to where we ended our night. What I didn’t realize was that would turn into spending the whole weekend with her and some more of her friends. By simply meeting a couple people through Circle Seven Five I was being welcomed into people’s groups of friends without any hesitation. I had never experienced so much friendliness so soon after meeting people.
I still attend events hosted by Circle Seven Five to meet more new people, but I made sure to stay in contact with the first people who made an effort to hang out with me. When I am not attending an organized event, I am now able to hang out with some of the girls on my own fairly consistently.
If you live in the DFW area I am actually now an ambassador for Circle Seven Five. If you are interested in joining, use code annekcsf for $10 off of your first month. If you are specifically interested in the north Dallas branch, you can use code northanne15.
